HISTORY
The original
building dates back to circa 1750 and probably began life as an inn catering for
drovers using the adjacent land to move livestock between Oxford and London. An
extension was added in Victorian times and the old Rising Sun was established.
In June 1966 a certain Mr Harry Cooper created a little bit of history by exiting
the car park & colliding with a car driven by Prince Phillip. The Queen later
arrived from Windsor castle to collect her husband & is reported to have stayed
for a cup of tea with the landlady of the time.
By 1996 the old Rising Sun had become a shabby & infrequently used pub when Tim
and Kerry Morris arrived to create the Sun & Stars. It was voted Caterer of the
Year by Morlands Brewery in 1997, and nominated as a Les Routiers Quality Establishment.
During
the last ten years the Sun and Stars has undergone many changes, and is now firmly
established as an upmarket Pub and Restaurant providing the highest quality food,
service and comfort. |
